Grant from PrimeCare to help provide medical visits for uninsured children

MEDFORD, OREGON (12/15/09) --   Community Health Center is the recipient of a $3,750 grant to help provide medical care for uninsured children in our community.  Community Health Center offers are free first medical visit to uninsured children, then helps parents with the application eligibility process to obtain Oregon Health Plan insurance for the children.

This is the 2nd year Community Health Center has received a grant from PrimeCare.  As a direct result of the 2008 PrimeCare grant and contributions from other community organizations and individuals, 2,402 primary care medical visits were provided on behalf of uninsured children in our community between January 2 and October 30, 2009. 

There are more than 100,000 children in Oregon without healthcare insurance according to a 2008 report by Children First of Oregon. Of the 45,605 children in Jackson County, 4,606 are estimated to be uninsured.  In October 2009, Oregon expanded the availability of health insurance to 80,000 uninsured children and Oregon children living between 200-300% of Federal Poverty Level (up to $66,150 for a family of four) after January 1, 2010, can receive a significant discount for insurance coverage through Kids Connect. 

 

ABOUT PRIMECARE
PrimeCare is a 503 member physician association that negotiates physician participation with more than 20 health insurance companies, providing access to medical care for more than 130,000 local residents. PrimeCare credentials all member providers to national standards, conducts quality assurance activities, and provides advocacy for its members and their patients.


ABOUT COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER

Established in 1972, Community Health Center is a community sponsored network of primary and preventive health care clinics dedicated to providing access to quality medical care that is timely and affordable for all Jackson County residents, especially uninsured and underinsured families.  Dedicated teams of physicians, family nurse practitioners, physician assistants, social workers, nurses and staff provide medical care at clinics in Ashland, Medford and White City, Oregon.
